With an estimated 3,000 cubic yards of debris to be removed from U.S. 101, the highway at Last Chance Grade will remain closed through the night, Caltrans reported Saturday afternoon.

Crews will work through the night to remove the debris on U.S. 101 and reassess in the morning, Caltrans spokeswoman Cori Reed said. The department will make an announcement by 11 a.m. Sunday, she said.

From a Caltrans Facebook post:

U.S. 101 will NOT be opening TONIGHT. It remains fully closed due to slide at Last Chance Grade. The slide activity continued today and stalled clean up efforts. There is still an estimated 3,000 cubic yards of material to be removed. We will continue working as long as possible into the night. We will reassess in the morning and have an estimated reopening time by 11am.
