Nazem Kadri scored on a rebound with 41 seconds left to break a tie and give the Colorado Avalanche a 3-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night in Las Vegas.

It was the seventh goal in seven career games against Vegas for Kadri, who tapped in a rebound of a Joonas Donskoi deflection off a Bowen Byram shot from the right point.

Brandon Saad had a goal and an assist, Nathan MacKinnon scored a goal and Donskoi added two assists for Colorado, which bounced back from losing the opener of the four-game stretch of games against Vegas 1-0 on Sunday. The teams meet again on Saturday afternoon in Stateline, Nev., in an NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe contest before concluding their series on Monday night in Denver.

Mac Pacioretty and Jonathan Marchessault scored goals and William Karlsson had two assists for West Division-leading Vegas, which lost for just the second time in regulation in 11 home games (8-2-1). Marc-Andre Fleury, starting his fifth straight game, made 22 saves.

Capitals 3, Penguins 1

Washington rode two second-period goals to break a four-game losing streak with a win over host Pittsburgh.

Lars Eller had a goal and assist, Conor Sheary and Jakub Vrana also scored, and Richard Panik added two assists for the Capitals. Washington goaltender Vitek Vanecek, in his 11th straight start, made 26 saves.

Zach Aston-Reese scored for Pittsburgh, which had won two in a row. Tristan Jarry stopped 39 of 42 shots.

Kings 4, Wild 0

Jonathan Quick made 28 saves for his first shutout of the season and the 53rd of his NHL career, and host Los Angeles beat short-handed Minnesota.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan had a goal and an assist, and Trevor Moore, Dustin Brown and Drew Doughty also scored for the Kings, who have strung together a three-game point streak (2-0-1) for the first time this season.

Kaapo Kahkonen made 25 saves for the Wild, who were coming off a two-week shutdown caused by a team-wide COVID-19 outbreak. Minnesota was still without eight players who were either still in the NHL's coronavirus protocol or had not yet practiced since coming off the list.

Islanders 3, Sabres 0

Ilya Sorokin made 20 saves to record a shutout and first win in his fourth career NHL game and Anders Lee scored twice as New York extended its point streak to eight games with a victory at Buffalo.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored in a fourth consecutive game and added an assist for the Islanders, who have won a season-high three straight games and are 5-0-3 since taking three straight regulation defeats from Jan. 24-28.

Sorokin, the backup to Semyon Varlamov, starred in the KHL, but the 25-year-old Russian was 0-2-1 with a 3.65 goals-against average as an NHL starter this season prior to Tuesday. Sabers goalie Carter Hutton stopped 21 shots.

Devils 5, Rangers 2

Rookie Yegor Sharangovich scored the tiebreaking goal with 9:17 remaining and New Jersey returned from a two-week layoff due to COVID-19 to beat host New York.

The Devils were strong in their first game since Jan. 31. They saw seven games postponed and at one point had 19 players in the NHL's COVID-19 protocol. Pavel Zacha scored on the power play and Will Butcher tallied in the second period for the Devils, who beat the Rangers for the second time this season.

Pavel Buchnevich and Colin Blackwell scored for New York while Igor Shesterkin stopped 32 shots.
