ORLANDO, Fla. – The unsettled pattern will continue to close out weekend and right into Monday. The most widespread rain Sunday will occur in the morning and then become more scattered through the afternoon.
The rain and clouds will help to lower the overall severe weather threat Sunday, but a few storms could still be strong in the afternoon. Damaging wind, heavy rain and lightning will be the main threats. A brief tornado will also be possible in the strongest storms.
The main severe threat will occur in the afternoon if enough heating can occur to generate a sea breeze. Any tornado threat would happen due to shifting winds generated by the sea breeze. Any sunshine seen in the afternoon will heighten the severe weather threat.
There may be a dry window for parts of the Daytona 500 Sunday afternoon, but scattered showers and storms will be around through the evening.
Another chance for strong storms arrives Monday with another system pushing through the Southeast U.S. The highest severe threat will be northwest of I-4 Monday for areas shaded in yellow.
Our unsettled weather pattern continues for the week ahead. By next weekend, it should be drier, windy and a bit colder.
