On second thought, AJ Bramah is headed to Nevada.
The Robert Morris transfer originally committed to Arizona State over finalists Nevada, St. Bonaventure and Western Kentucky in March. But after decommitting from the Sun Devils earlier this week, Bramah announced Friday he was headed to Nevada, filling a scholarship that opened Wednesday when the Wolf Pack parted ways with Oregon transfer Addison Patterson.
Bramah, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound forward, was one of the top remaining transfers available on the market. A native of San Leandro, Calif., he will have one season of eligibility at Nevada to use this upcoming season.
Bramah put his name in the NCAA transfer portal in early February. He was one of the nation's most productive players before entering the portal, averaging 21 points and 10.3 rebounds on 51.1 percent shooting in 12 games while playing in the Horizon League. He also averaged 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He scored at least 17 points in every game this season and posted a high of 28 in a win over Purdue-Fort Wayne. As a junior, Bramah averaged 13 points and 7.9 rebounds on 56.9 percent shooting.
While Bramah has never made a Division I 3-pointer (0-for-3), he's a dangerous slasher who made 55 percent of his two-point attempts during his two seasons at Robert Morris, which came after two years at Sheridan College in Wyoming. Bramah averaged 6.3 free throw attempts per game last season, hitting those at an 80 percent rate. He should compete for a starting job with the Wolf Pack, which has put together a transfer-laden roster under Steve Alford, who is entering his third season at Nevada.
Also are next year's roster are D-I transfers Grant Sherfield (Wichita State), Desmond Cambridge Jr. (Brown), Warren Washington (Oregon State), Will Baker (Texas) and Kenan Blackshear (Florida Atlantic). Sherfield, Cambridge and Washington were Nevada's three most productive players last season and will be join next year by Baker, Blackshear and Bramah, who have all committed to the Wolf Pack as D-I transfers in the last six months.
The Wolf Pack, which went 16-10 last season, is expected to be one of the favorites to win the conference next season as it returns its entire starting five while adding more production via transfer. Bramah is capable of playing either forward position and could earn the Wolf Pack's starting power forward position in 2021-22. Nevada is now at the NCAA maximum of 13 scholarship players for next season.
