A summer-like explosion of weather in the Chicago area will continue on Sunday, but a cold front will bring some radical changes, albeit temporarily, near Lake Michigan.
At the beginning of the day, there may be a slight shower in the area, but it is expected to be mostly sunny by noon and then cloudy.
According to current forecast models, temperatures fluctuate considerably across the region, rising from the late 70’s to the mid 80’s by Sunday afternoon.
In the late afternoon, a cold front is expected to move south along the shores of Lake Michigan, providing isolated showers and thunderstorms, and a fairly important cool-down opportunity, especially in communities near the lake.
In many places along the lake, including Chicago, temperatures can drop in the 1960s, taking a short break from the summer-like heat that has affected the region for the past few days.
Windy conditions can also occur on lakes, so boaters are advised to be aware of unstable conditions if they are out on the water late in the afternoon.
Temperatures are expected to remain mostly cloudy all night and cool, but mercury surges again on Monday, with highs expected in most areas in the mid-1980s. Things are likely to stay warm, at least until Wednesday, with another front passing through the last two days of the week and temperatures returning to the late 1960s and late 70s.
