While the present-day Bulls are making big moves to try to return to NBA relevance, fans will be able to bask in the franchise’s glory days starting Sunday night with “The Last Dance,” the highly anticipated 10-part documentary on Michael Jordan and the 1997-98 Bulls’ title run.
“The Last Dance” goes behind the scenes to chronicle the entire 1997-98 season, which everyone from Jordan to coach Phil Jackson knew would be the group’s final run together. With archival footage from the NBA, which got permission to film the team behind the scenes throughout the season, and countless interviews, it’s shaping up to be the definitive look at the team that dominated the ‘90s.
The program was originally set to run in the summer following the 2020 NBA Finals, but the release date was moved up as a hungry audience of sports fans looks for something to watch while games are postponed due to coronavirus.
The first two episodes will air Sunday night at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN in the United States, with two more episodes airing each of the next four Sundays through mid-May. For viewers outside the U.S., episodes will hit Netflix the day after airing on ESPN.
