The epic Netflix series based on Bernard Cornwall’s Saxon Stories returns this weekend with a brand new adventure for Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon) to tackle. The Last Kingdom debuted back in 2015 on BBC America. While it was a modest hit back then, it became something of a cult obsession on Netflix. The second season of The Last Kingdom was a Netflix co-production with the BBC, until finally the streaming giant took full control over the series in 2018.
The Last Kingdom follows the adventures of a fictional Saxon warrior named Uhtred of Bebbanburg. As a boy, Uhtred is kidnapped by an invading Danish army and raised as one of their own. Years later, he and another Saxon foundling, Brida, fall in love right as their Danish family is slaughtered by rivals. On the run, Uhtred and Brida appeal their case to King Alfred of Wessex, the last free kingdom. Uhtred then finds himself torn between his loyalties to the pagan Viking warriors he knows as family and his deep-rooted desire to reclaim Bebbanburg.
Over the course of the first three seasons of The Last Kingdom, Uhtred falls in love with a string of spirited beauties, kills all manner of imposing enemies, and even is briefly enslaved for a spell. He lives a wild, exciting life, and actor Alexander Dreymon plays him with the charisma of a mythic hero.

As with almost all Netflix originals, Season 4 of The Last Kingdom will be on Netflix at 3 AM ET or 12 AM PT on April 26.WHO’S WHO IN THE LAST KINGDOM CAST?
The most important person in The Last Kingdom is undoubtedly Uhtred of Bebbanburg, who has also been called Uhtred Ragnorson and Osbert. Uhtred is played by German actor Alexander Dreymon. After that, the main players (who are still alive!) are Brida, Uhtred’s first love, played by Emily Cox. Then there’s Father Beocca, played by Ian Hart, the Christian priest who has known and championed Uhtred since he was a little boy.
Two of Uhtred’s most trusted friends are Hild (Eva Birthistle), a former nun Uhtred rescued from sexual assault, who then became a warrior by his side, and Finan (Mark Rowley), an Irishman whom Uhtred met in slavery. Reign star Toby Regbo plays the King of Mercia, Aethelred, and Millie Brady is his wife, Alfred’s daughter, Aethelflaed.
