Douglas County Sewer District has begun removing three Storage Nitrification/De-nitrification Reactor Towers (SNDRs) from service for cleaning and inspection. The district cautions the local area that while the SNDRs are out of service, unusual odor is a possibility in the area by the Apple Loop Capital trail in East Wenatchee.

“What would cause the odor is we have to change our normal treatment process in order to take those SNDRs out of service,” said Bernita Landers, district manager. “We then have to store some of the sewage in other structures at the plant and keep it moving. There’s a possibility some odors can escape at that time.”

According to Landers, it’s not anticipated there will be a lot of odor, however this maintenance project isn’t done frequently with the pumps changed last 12 years ago. The tanks are expected to be cleaned out and inspected with new pumps installed by the end of the month. Normal operations are expected to be resumed by July 11.

Contact the District at 884-2484 with any concerns or questions.
