CONWAY, Ark.: The University of Central Arkansas tennis program finally returns home as they face Northwestern State tomorrow at 11 a.m.
After a short road stretch, the Bears come home as they host their second to last home conference match.
Fresh of a massive victory on the road against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UCA prepares for another tough matchup. The Bears will face off against the Lady Demons that have had an on-off season as they have sat at .500 for most of the year. NSU is led by their No. 2 singles player Judit Castillo. Castillo is 6-6 on the year with quality wins against Lamar and McNeese. The Bears will stick sophomore Fuka Nonoyama against the Lady Demons No. 2. Nonoyama continues to impress in this spring season as she dominated the Islanders No. 2 6-1, 6-2.
Outside of that matchup, the Bears have a multiple players step up in significant ways. Freshman Sumomo Hamanaga did just that when she decided the TAMCC matchup with the final singles point victory. Hamanaga overcame an early deficit and did not look back as she helped the Bears pull off the big upset. Another exceptional player to watch is sophomore Chunxi Xin. The sophomore fell short of a victory against the Islanders undefeated No. 1. While it may be a loss on the record, the match was exceptional, and Xin impressed a lot of people in the SLC with that match. Xin will look to get on the right side of the win column as she battles the Lady Demons Mariella Minetti. Minetti is 4-6 this season and has lost three of her last four matches.
First serve for the matchup happens at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the UCA Tennis Courts.
