The Nevada County Fairgrounds announced Wednesday that its Board of Directors came to a unanimous decision to hold the Nevada County Fair Aug. 11-15.

According to the announcement, the Fairgrounds also plans to hold its annual Draft Horse Classic Sept. 16-19 and Country Christmas Faire Nov. 26-28.

Patrick Eidman, CEO of the Nevada County Fairgrounds, said Wednesday that the state’s announcement earlier this month about how it plans to move away from the Blueprint for a Safer Economy COVID-19 risk tier system June 15 “presented a real opportunity for us to move forward with our event.”

“We are really looking forward to doing that safely,” said Eidman, adding that the fair may look different this year. “We’re going to keep a close eye on public health guidelines and work with our Public Health Department on how it needs to look, but … the news about June 15 was huge for us.”

“It’s a very passionate group,” said Eidman on the community’s social media response to the announcement Wednesday. Three hours after the announcement was posted to the Fairgrounds’ Facebook account, it had been shared over 300 times.

“Our whole team is really excited to see the community really in good spirits and looking forward to the fair,” he said.

Nevada City Lions Club secretary Doug Wight, who is also a former district governor with the organization, said he was “thrilled” to see the announcement Wednesday as the club — alongside nearly 30 other local organizations — is a regular participant in the fair’s Treat Street.

“We’re looking forward to opening the taco booth again and serving our famous tacos,” said Wight.

“It’s very important for us to be able to maintain our proceeds to put it back out into the community,” said Wight. He said the club typically brings in around $30,000 in taco sales.

“It’s important for all of the nonprofits out there,” said Wight. “We love going up and down Treat Street and … we purchase their foods as well as they purchase ours, so it’s a win-win.

In previous years, the fairgrounds has shared that, during each Treat Street, the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce serves approximately 3,000 hamburgers , the Grass Valley Host Lions Club serves approximately 16,000 ears of corn , and the Job’s Daughters corn dog booth sells between 15,000 and 20,000 corn dogs .
