SEISS has offered grants to self-employed people whose businesses have suffered as a result of COVID-19. It is very much like the furlough scheme, in the sense that it financially supports people, providing them with a proportion of their income. This is based on payment history and records, providing tailored help to those who need it most.
Britons are also able to make a claim for the second grant if they are eligible, even if they did not make a claim for the first.
To be eligible to receive the second grant, claimants must prove they have been adversely affected by coronavirus on or after July 14, 2020.
They must also meet another series of criteria.
A person must have traded in the 2019/20 tax year, and intend to continue to trade in the 2020/21 tax year.
It said: “We will work out your eligibility for the second grant in the same way as the first.
“If you’ve previously requested a review, please do not contact us again as your eligibility will not change.
“We use the information you or your tax agent or adviser sent us on your self-assessment tax returns to work out eligibility.”
However, as issues surrounding COVID-19 continue, the government has extended the SEISS grant in certain ways.
From November 2020 to April 2021, there will be two grants paid in lump sum instalments to provide additional support.
These grants, however, are subject to Income Tax and National Insurance contributions.
