GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The graduating class of 2020 has had a difficult high school experience. From dealing with last year's flooding to now losing their entire last semester, some students feel like it has not been the best send off after 12 years of school.

Emily Stein is a senior at Grand Island Northwest. She had been in softball and track, but with both seasons cancelled her time in athletics has come to an abrupt end.
"I went to states last year. I just wanted another chance at it," Stein said. "Another shot to go run there. After track being cancelled, that was really hard. Just knowing that my last season was all the way back in softball and I'm not going to play sports again. It's just hard to deal with."
As hard as it has been to say good bye to sports, this time of isolation also forced Emily to say goodbye to her friends.
"I'm always with my friends, like constantly," she said. "So not being able to just hang out with them or go to school or go to practices or just drive around in the same car together, little things like that. It's not fun to not be able to hang out with your friends."
She says a lot is up in the air right now with GINW not having announced a decision on what will happen for their graduation ceremony. She said not being sure if or when there will be a ceremony has also thrown off her plans for a graduation party.
"I obviously don't like that because I had everything planned out already but it's just kind of up in the air now," she said.
After seeing this pandemic ruin her and her classmates senior year, Stein tells juniors to enjoy every moment when it's their turn and not to take anything for granted.
