Hilton Head Island, South Carolina (AP) —Forecasters are monitoring the weather in the systems they say are likely to intensify and cause heavy rainfall along the Georgia and South Carolina coastlines.

A well-defined cyclone region was about 190 miles (306 km) east of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, on Monday morning. National Hurricane Center Said.

Forecasters gave the cyclone a 70% chance of being fortified, saying it could soon become a tropical cyclone or tropical storm.

Fast-moving systems could reach the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina as early as Monday night, according to forecasters. The speed of the system means that if a tropical cyclone warning is issued, the inhabitants may have a relatively short notice to prepare.

According to the Hurricane Center, it could rain a few inches along the coastlines of both states until Tuesday, regardless of how it develops.

US Air Force Reserve Command aircraft will investigate the system on Monday night to provide forecasters with more data.
