How did England finish top of Group D?
England began the tournament in impressive fashion, beating Croatia at Wembley 1-0 courtesy of a Raheem Sterling goal. It was a measure of revenge for their defeat in the World Cup semi-final in 2018.
But there were concerns after they drew their second game. England could only manage a 0-0 draw against Scotland and the manner of their performance was particularly disappointing.
Southgate’s side, though, recovered to beat the Czech Republic on Tuesday night. That put them top of the group on seven points.
Who will England face in the last 16?
This is the easy part. England will take on the runners-up in Group F at the last-16 stage of Euro 2020.
That game will take place Tuesday, June 29 at Wembley at 5pm.
The issue, really, is who they will face. All four teams in Group F could still technically finish second.
Germany occupy that position, while Portugal — in third — and France could also easily swap into that spot.
Hungary are bottom with one point but a surprise win over Germany would likely see them finish second.
Who would England face in the quarter-finals?
They would face the winners of a last-16 game, which would be between the first-placed team in Group E and one of the four third-placed sides.
Sweden are currently top of Group E.
Who would England face in the semi-finals?
They would take on the winners of a quarter-final which will feature either Wales or Denmark and the Netherlands or a third-placed side.
That semi-final would be on July 7 at 8pm.
Who would England face in the final?
Well, that’s a big question. It would be the team that progressed furthest in the other half of the draw. That could be one of Italy, Austria or Belgium as it stands.
The final takes place on July 11 at 8pm at Wembley.
