A week of mostly unsettled weather ended Saturday night with one last line of thunderstorms as a cold front worked through the region. Now, Sunday and Monday look to be beautiful days with lower humidity and cooler temperatures, the National Weather Service reports.

There was limited storm damage with trees down in Bethlehem and Wilson Borough and power lines damaged in Salisbury Township and Alburtis, the weather service said, as Saturday evening turned dark early with ominous clouds before quickly clearing to a blue sky farewell to the daylight. Only about a quarter-inch of rain fell all day at Lehigh Valley International Airport.

In between deep greys and blues, the sky took on an orange glow, something EPAWA Weather Consulting meteorologist Bobby Martrich said on Twitter was caused by sunlight near the horizon but behind storm clouds hitting ice particles.

But once that lifted, cool, clear air arrived overnight and the daytime high on Sunday in the Lehigh Valley isn’t expected to reach 80, with the overnight low dipping into the 50s. The next two days will feel more like last Wednesday, the only real break from the humidity in recent days until now.

The power is back on in Williams Township, according to the Met-Ed and PPL Electric Utilities outage sites, after a Thursday night storm tore down trees and utility poles on the western edge of the municipality. PPL had 36 customers without power at 7:30 a.m. Sunday in Lehigh County but just two in Northampton County, where Met-Ed had none out, but the Ohio-based utility did have 51 customers without power in Lynn Township in Lehigh County.

Clouds will build in Monday night and usher in some wetter days with thunderstorms returning to the forecast by Wednesday night and hanging around once again for a few days, the weather service said.
