Strong winds are set to blow into the Chicago area.
Starting Wednesday, a northerly wind with a gust of over 40 mph will blow into the shoreline of Lake Michigan in Chicago, northeastern Illinois, and northwestern Indiana. The wind is a “full fetch” or “full length of Lake Michigan” wind, the time required for the wind to blow off a significant area of the lake and transfer energy to the surface of the lake to build a striking wave. Is maximized.
The Lakeshore Flood Recommendation comes into effect Wednesday at 7am and runs most of Thursday.
Those that are likely to be “hit waves” begin to hit the coastline late Tuesday night and are further built on Wednesday and Wednesday nights, some as high as 12 to 16 feet.
