After losing to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3, the Kansas City Chiefs are in sole possession of last place in the AFC West division with a 1-2 record.
No matter the result of the Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos games, which have yet to be completed, the Chiefs will be the last-place team in the AFC West this week. It’s the first time the Chiefs have held last place in the AFC West with Patrick Mahomes as their quarterback. It’s also the first time this team has seen a record below .500 since the 2015 NFL season.
Now, it’s still very early in the season with more than enough time for the Chiefs to flip the script on their rough start to the year. It’s going to be tough to dig themselves out of this hole to win the division. They’re going to be a game and a half back from the Chargers. They’ll possibly be two games out for the division lead depending on the outcomes of games from Denver and Las Vegas.
Right now, the Chiefs look the part of a last-place team. Sure, they have an all-world quarterback, tight end and receiver and some very good pieces elsewhere. They’re just not playing good football together. During past two games Kansas City had chances to win, but mistakes have cost them at the most crucial points of the game. Other teams in the AFC West have executed much better this season and if the Chiefs want to win a sixth consecutive division title, they’ll have to play much better down the stretch.
