AKRON, Ohio — Two vehicles were taken Tuesday in separate carjackings that occurred within 25 minutes of each other, according to police.
Officers first were called to Patterson Park in the North Hill neighborhood at about 4:05 p.m. The 17-year-old male victim tells police that he was at the park when a group of males approached and that one ripped the car keys from a chain around his neck. The suspects then stole the victim’s dark green Kia Sorento.
There were no reports of injuries but the vehicle has not been recovered. The males were estimated to be between 15 to 20 years old.
At about 4:30 p.m., officers were called to the 1300 block of Kenmore Boulevard in the Kenmore neighborhood. A 31-year-old woman tells police she was sitting inside her Dodge Durango in the parking lot of Sunrise Market when three teen males approached.
The suspects, at least two armed with handguns, jumped into her vehicle, with one of the teens hitting her in the head with his gun. The woman was able to get out of the Durango before the suspects drove off.
The vehicle was recovered a short time later on the 1100 block of Kenmore Avenue.
Police say there are no indications the two incidents are related and they are continuing to search for the suspects. One of the males in the Kenmore Avenue carjacking was wearing a hooded sweat shirt with “Champion” written across the front.
