Sylvia Fowles recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds and the Minnesota Lynx overwhelmed the short-handed Indiana Fever in the second half en route to a 92-73 win Friday in Indianapolis.
One game removed from having to rally after squandering a 14-point lead to this same Indiana team, Minnesota (21-10) avoided a repeat of the Sept. 12 performance with a dominant third quarter.
The Lynx closed the period on a 16-6 run, then pushed the lead to as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter.
Fowles was virtually unstoppable in the paint, shooting 8-of-9 from the floor on the way to her team high in scoring. In total, nine Lynx made at least one field goal, including Crystal Dangerfield, who made 3 of 5 from the 3-point line.
Dangerfield finished with 15 points. Napheesa Collier added 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Natalie Achonwa registered 11 points off the bench.
Friday's win marked three straight for Minnesota -- all against Indiana -- and sealed a top-four seed with a first-round bye for the Lynx in the upcoming WNBA Playoffs.
Minnesota is hitting its stride at the right time with eight wins in its last nine games, and can close out the No. 3 seed with a win over Washington on Sunday.
Indiana (6-25) dropped its sixth straight decision to guarantee it a last-place finish in the standings. The Fever played their fourth game in eight days Friday, and did so with only seven players available.
Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers and tied a season high with 26 points. Lindsay Allen scored 15 points and Emma Cannon -- who parlayed a series of seven-day contracts into a starting spot down the stretch -- finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Teaira McCowan led all players with 12 rebounds and notched seven points in the loss.
Indiana closes out its 2021 season Sunday at Chicago, which has clinched a playoff berth.
