The next federal census is set to occur this spring.
The census is a survey of Canadians on a variety of topics. The information helps to inform communities, provinces, territories and the country as a whole plan schools, daycares, housing, hospitals, emergency services, roads, public transportation and employment skills training. This year’s census will occur on May 11.

On Tuesday, Kamloops mayor Ken Christian encouraged Kamloops residents to take part. Christian said he hopes the census will not be lost amongst other priorities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is something that needs to be attended to, just as if it were income tax, because it really is going to dictate a lot of what governments, subsequent governments, are able to do going forward, based on the information and data gleaned on the 2021 census,” Christian said.
The census occurs every five years. The last census was held in May of 2016. For more, go online to census.gc.ca.
