Qatari astronomer Bashir Marzouq said, “The phenomenon of the internal conjunction of the planet Mercury is an important astronomical phenomenon for two reasons: The first is that it is considered an indicator of the transition of Mercury from its appearance in the evening sky after sunset (above the western horizon), to its appearance in the sky of dawn before sunrise. (Top of the eastern horizon), and the other reason is that this phenomenon only occurs to two planets of the solar system, Mercury and Venus, due to the fact that their orbit is located around the sun within the Earth’s orbit.
He added, “The phenomenon of the internal conjugation of Mercury occurred last July, while the next time will occur in February 2021.”
And the “inner conjunction phenomenon” occurs when the center of the sun, Earth and Mercury is on a single straight line, and the distance between Earth and Mercury will be about 84 million kilometers.
The two planets Mercury and Venus can be seen from the Earth’s surface in the form of different phases that resemble the phases of the moon in its orbit around the Earth, so astronomers will be able to monitor the planet using astronomical telescopes after the phenomenon occurs.
It is worth noting, that all inhabitants of the globe will not be able to observe or see Mercury during the phenomenon of internal conjunction, because the illuminated part of the planet will be facing the sun, while the dark part of it will be facing the earth.
