Justin Allgaier was released from the hospital after being evaluated for non-racing related medical purposes following Thursday night's NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Kentucky. According to a statement from JR Motorsports, Allgaier will undergo further evaluation before being cleared to race in Friday night's race, which is part of an Xfinity doubleheader at the track.
The driver of the No. 7 car for JR Motorsports was transported to the hospital after being involved in a last-lap crash on Thursday night. Allgaier hit the wall multiple times after making contact with Ronnie Bassett Jr. and Timmy Hill.
Both Bassett and Hill were treated and released from the infield care center after the race.
Allgaier's wife, Ashley, was not on location at the track Thursday night, but was active on social media throughout and after the race. On Friday morning, she thanked those who expressed concern about Justin's condition.
As for the winner of this particular race, that distinction goes to Austin Cindric won Thursday night's race. He charged past Chase Briscoe on an overtime restart for his first victory of the season and first on an oval. I
If cleared to race, Allgaier has a starting position of 20th for Friday night's race. However, according to his wife, he'll be going to a backup car which means he'll start from the rear of the field.
Allgaier is just one week removed from replacing Jimmie Johnson at The Brickyard for the Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400. Johnson pulled out of the race because he tested positive for coronavirus.
