LaSalle police are reporting no risk to public safety after a teenage girl said she was approached by a man possibly impersonating an officer last week.

“After an exhaustive and thorough investigation, the LaSalle Police Service has reason to believe the incident did not occur as reported and there is no evidence to support public safety risk by an unknown person impersonating a police officer in the Town of LaSalle,” wrote Sr. Cont. Terry Seguin in a Facebook post Wednesday night.

The incident reportedly took place just after 2 p.m. last Friday, when the teenager was riding her bike on Malden Road near Delmar Street. Police were told the girl was approached by a dark-coloured sedan with no markings, but the driver wore police clothing.

It was initially reported the girl briefly heard a siren before the man asked her to pull over into a parking lot at Malden Square Plaza. During a short encounter, the man reportedly asked her several questions before saying it was OK for her to leave.

Police thank the public and the media who shared the force’s social media post about the incident for their attention and assistance in the investigation.
