Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister KK Shailaja said that Kerala is likely to enter the community transmission phase of COVID-19 any time as the number of cases keeps rising each day. Six districts in the state should be on high alert. Since most number of people returning from other states are in Thiruvananthapuram, more precautions should be taken here, she said.
The minister also said that the number of tests done in the state will be increased in the coming days. The quarantine centres in the state have not been closed down. Some hotels and resorts were excluded as houses with better facilities were available. Six districts are on high alert because of the presence of more positive cases and the cases with unidentified sources, she said.
"The surge in the number of COVID cases in the state was expected. The number of patients who contracted the virus through direct contact is only less than 10 percent in the state. But it is more than 70 percent in some other states," the minister pointed out.
Kerala is whole heartedly receiving the expats who are returning. However, they have to strictly adhere to the safety guidelines. The minister also added that the state is trying its best to reduce the death toll and the death rate in Kerala is less than one percent.
