Early voting for Oklahoma's primary election begins Thursday.

Registered voters who want to vote early may do so at their county election board on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Voters will have to show an acceptable form of identification, such as a driver's license, in order to cast a ballot.

Early voting, also known as in-person absentee voting, will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Oklahoma County Election Board is at 4201 N Lincoln Blvd.

Meanwhile, election officials are encouraging people who intend to vote by mail to return their absentee ballots as soon as possible.

Oklahoma County saw a spike in the number of requests for absentee ballots ahead of this election. Before the deadline Tuesday, 47,748 people requested an absentee ballot, said Oklahoma County Election Board Secretary Doug Sanderson. Roughly, 30,000 people requested absentee ballots ahead of the presidential primaries in 2016, he said.

Statewide, county election boards had mailed out 141,817 absentee ballots and received 49,186, the State Election Board reported Wednesday.

The primary election will take place on Tuesday, June 30. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
