TROY, Ala. – Saturday's game between Middle Tennessee and Troy figured to be one of the top contests on the non-conference slate, and it lived up to the billing as the homestanding Trojans escaped with a thrilling 77-76 win.

The game pitted two defending conference champions and wasn't decided until the final second when Felmas Koranga corralled an offensive rebound and scored on a putback with five-tenths of a second remaining to give Troy (5-5) the lead.

Middle Tennessee (7-2) had taken a 76-75 lead with eight seconds remaining when Kseniya Malashka scored on a driving layup as the Lady Raiders erased a 12-point, fourth-quarter deficit with clutch baskets following turnovers off a strong press defense.

"Our young ladies battled and that's all you can ask," Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell said. "We knew this would be a tough game on the road against a very good Troy basketball team that is picked to repeat as Sun Belt Conference champions. We had a chance to win on the road and had the lead late, but they made a big play at the end and got the win."

Middle Tennessee hit half of its 10 3-pointers in the final six minutes during a furious comeback with Jalynn Gregory, Dor Saar, Courtney Whitson and Alexis Whittington leading the long-range charge.

Saar led Middle Tennessee with 22 points on the strength of six 3-pointers and added six rebounds. Whitson tallied 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds, Gregory finished with 13 points, three assists and two steals, and Malashka had 10 points and seven rebounds as four Lady Raiders reached double figures scoring.

Courtney Blakely provided a huge spark off the bench, particularly in the fourth quarter, when she helped lead Middle Tennessee's charge. She finished with eight points on 3-of-5 shooting, adding two assists and two steals.

Troy scored 45 of its 77 points in the second half, building a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter before the Lady Raiders exploded for 33 fourth-quarter points to charge ahead in the final seconds.

The Lady Raiders will face Southern Illinois at home Friday. Tipoff is 6 p.m.
