A lunar eclipse will occur late Thursday but it might be shrouded by clouds in greater San Diego - The San Diego Union-Tribune

A near-total lunar eclipse will occur in the skies above San Diego County starting late Thursday night and ending roughly two hours before dawn on Friday.

But the National Weather Service says there’s a good chance that clouds will obscure the view from the coast to the inland valleys and foothills.

It’s still worth going outside to check out the situation.

NASA says that the barely visible penumbral phase of the eclipse will begin at 10:02 p.m. Thursday when the full moon begins to move into Earth’s shadow.

The moon will grow progressively darker until 1:02 a.m. Friday when the maximum phase of the eclipse occurs. The moon will then turn progressively brighter. It will fully exit Earth’s shadow by 4:03 a.m.
