Trick-or-treating will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Halloween in Ottawa this year despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Commissioner Marla Rodriguez confirmed during Tuesday's City Council Meeting.
She asked residents who wish to participate turn on their porch lights and those who do not keep them off.
"If you're going out, keep it to small groups, preferably within households and please be respectful to those not participating," Rodriguez said. "Follow the CDC guidlines and wear facemasks. Adults and people handing out treats should do this, as well."
She said for Halloween masks, they may not fit someone's face as well as a mask made to stop the spread of COVID-19 would, so may be necessary to wear a mask under a Halloween mask. She also asked people handing out treats make sure to hand them out individually to prevent any cross contamination, and participants carry hand sanitizer with them.
