What’s on the line?

Baylor’s second win of the season probably couldn’t have come at a better time.

Getting a win over Kansas State was crucial for the Bears, and the victory gives them the confidence and momentum they need as they aim for revenge against perennial Big 12 giant Oklahoma.

It’s safe to say Baylor’s veterans still feel the sting of that heartbreaking overtime loss to the Sooners in last year’s Big 12 title game. Two of Baylor’s three losses in 2019 were courtesy of Oklahoma, and the Bears are a whopping 3-26 in the series.

Thanks to Baylor’s win and Texas’ loss over the weekend, the Sooners have a clear path toward making a sixth straight conference championship appearance. A win or loss over Baylor wouldn’t change much -- this game will just come down to bragging rights.

There’s some concern, however that Oklahoma’s recent COVID-19 issues could affect the matchup. The Sooners were forced to postpone last week’s game against West Virginia, and head coach Lincoln Riley expressed uncertainty earlier this week on whether they’ll be able to play.

When Baylor has the ball

In the postgame conference following Baylor’s triumphant victory over Kansas State, head coach Dave Aranda and Charlie Brewer’s teammates sang nothing but praises for the quarterback’s dynamic performance. Brewer finally came alive last Saturday and channeled his 2019 self as he went 31 of 39 for 349 passing yards and two touchdowns.

He also showed off his trademark skills as a runner, leading the Bears with 23 carries for 56 yards and a pair of touchdown runs.

Brewer’s teammates fed off his energy and recorded a season-high 420 yards total offense. If the Bears can bring that same energy and confidence into Norman, they can hold their own against the Sooners.

When Oklahoma has the ball

After shaking off some early-season upsets, the Sooners are back to their dominant ways. Even in a down year that has Iowa State gunning to overthrow them, Oklahoma still runs the conference.

The Sooners lead in a number of individual and team categories and boast the best scoring offense in the conference. The Sooners have won its last three contests by a combined 115 points.

Prediction

The odds are stacked high against Baylor for this one. The momentum from last week paired with the bitter feeling that still lingers from last year’s pair of Oklahoma losses will spark a lot of fight from the Bears, but it won’t be enough to upset a dominant Oklahoma team, let alone in Norman.

Score: Oklahoma 42, Baylor 13
