So, how will the chips fall for the Philadelphia Eagles in Round 1?
Last April, we all set there nervously awaiting the selection. After the Philadelphia Eagles moved back up to 10th overall in an odd interdivisional trade with the Dallas Cowboys, the expectation was that Philly would select DeVonta Smith. They did, and he ended up breaking DeSean Jackson’s franchise record for receiving yards in a rookie season. He did that despite playing in a run-first offense that led to a decrease in overall routes and targets.
Not to mention, Landon Dickerson, who made huge strides, and Milton Williams. He showed flashes at the end of the season. As far as the Day 3 picks go, Kenny Gainwell has the potential to become one of the best receiving backs in the league, Tarron Jackson blossomed into a solid rotational defensive end, and Patrick Johnson could compete for some reps as the starting SAM (strong-side linebacker in year two. That’s if all goes well.
Oh and if you didn’t already know, the Birds secured three first-round picks for the 2022 NFL Draft after earning a playoff birth in a transition season. The back half of the schedule certainly played a part in the team’s success if we’re being honest.
The unpredictability in the run game as well as the commitment to lean on it more in the second half of the season were also key components, yet there are still a good number of holes on the roster.
As Senior Bowl week concludes, the front office will have more information on some of the prospects they’re considering. Here’s a guess on who some of the guys are that they might be eyeing. It’s now time to predict which prospects Philadelphia will select in Round 1 to upgrade some of those needs. Another mock draft begins now.
