PRIEST LAKE, Idaho — The annual netting program takes place next week at Upper Priest Lake.
Scheduled from May 11 to May 29, the removal reduces the non-native trout population.
By keeping their number low, competition weakens for the lake’s native bull and cutthroat trout.
The removal works by placing gill nets at the bottom of the lake. While nets do not affect boats, avoiding the area is advised.
Following their removal from the lake, the non-native trout end up being donated to local food banks.
