Matt Sturgeon will take over as superintendent of the Teutopolis School District on June 1, rather than July 1.
The Teutopolis school board this week accepted Deb Philpot's resignation as interim superintendent effective May 31, due to a retirement limitation on working days. Philpot had been scheduled to depart at the end of June, so the Board also amended Sturgeon's hiring to occur one month sooner.

Also at a busy meeting, the Teutopolis board accepted resignations from Morgan Wilson as junior high assistant volleyball coach, volunteer assistant high school softball coach, and volunteer assistant high school girls golf coach; and from Nicole Lustig as junior high assistant softball coach.
The Board hired Lori Mette as high school special education teacher, Maria Tegeler as high school agriculture teacher, and Susan Bushur as a paraprofessional for the grade school, and also hired summer employees.
The Board voted to purchase high school math textbooks for just over $48,000; approved the final calendar for the current school year; approved membership in the Illinois Association of School Boards; adopted policy changes; and voted to keep student and adult lunch prices the same as this year: K-6 $2.55; 7-12 $2.80; adult $3.30; and high school ala carte $.70. Extra milk remains $.35. The Board also voted to keep student book fees and athletic fees the same as this year.
Board members approved additional asbestos removal work in the locker room ceiling area for $111,020 for abatement and renoval of the ceiling and pipe insulation, plus abatement design and monitoring for $18,000. All other projects will be taken care of in-house. The Board discussed the assembly room floor that requires asbestos removal and will seek individual pricing from qualified asbestos firms. All other tile installation at the high school will be taken care of by the Grounds and Facilities Director.
The Board also has agreed to get additional bids on adding a weight room at the high school. If the bids come back quickly, the Board will consider holding a special meeting to discuss the work further. The Board also approved technology purchases for the summer of approximately $45,000, with the Teutopolis Education Foundation contributing $28,000 toward the cost.
Board members also received a tentative amended budget for the current school year and will hold a hearing on the budget at their June 22 meeting.
