Good Monday bloggers,
The first week of March features a calm weather pattern for our region as a wet storm system tracks along the southern USA. How long will this last? The pattern will become more active during the last 2-3 weeks of March, especially the last 2 weeks of the month. We will have more on this in the coming days.
Now, tell the people along I-44 that March is coming in like a lamb. Last night a system and cold front combined to bring a 15 mile wide zone from around Joplin to Mountain Grove where 2"-4" of rain occurred. There were flash flood warnings all night. This is similar to the 15 mile wide band of one foot snow in central Kansas last week.
Here is our latest detailed forecast through Saturday and we take a look at the southern storm.
TODAY: Partly cloudy with a light wind. High around 50.
TONIGHT: Clear and cold, a bit breezy after midnight. Wind: SW 5-10 to W 10-25 mph. Lows in the mid 30s.
TUESDAY: A nice day with decreasing wind. Sunny with highs in the low 60s. Wind: W 10-15 mph. A surface high pressure will be found over southwest Kansas.
WEDNESDAY: Lows will be 35-40. Highs will be around 60 with a north wind 5-10 mph. We will see a high overcast that the sun shines through. These clouds are coming from a wet storm in the southern USA where flooding will be an issue.
THURSDAY: It will be a sunny and breezy day as weak cold front moves through. Highs will still be around 60 after lows around 40. Wind: N-NW 10-20 mph. The wet southern storm will be exiting the USA.
FRIDAY: It will be sunny and colder. Lows will be 25-30 with highs warming to 50-55.
SATURDAY: It will be partly cloudy, windy and warmer with lows in the 30s and highs in the 60s. A large surface high pressure will be located over the Tennessee Valley. This puts us in south winds as air rotates clockwise around high pressure in the northern hemisphere. Remember to set you clock forward 1 hour Saturday night, "spring forward." The good news, the sun will set later. The bad news, the weather data comes in 1 hour later and we lose an hour of sleep. Also check smoke detector batteries.
SUNDAY: This is when we will see the start of a more active pattern. There is a chance of rain with lows 45-50 and highs in the 60s.
RAINFALL/MELTED SNOW FORECAST THE NEXT 5-7 DAYS: We will be dry around here as 2"-5" of rain occurs over the southern USA.
Have a great week.
